The Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (BAAFS) was established in 1958. It primarily focus on scientific research, application and promotion of scientific and technological advances, as well as technical services and training in the fields of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries. Over the years, it has developed into a comprehensive research institution with well-established disciplines, advanced facilities, high academic standards, and strong innovative capacity, playing a leading role and providing solid support for the development of modern agriculture.BAAFS consists of 15 professional research institutes and centers. It employs over 3,000 staff members, including nearly 700 with senior professional titles, about 700 with doctoral degrees, and a large number of high-level talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, chief scientists of the National Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System, Beijing Scholars, etc. In terms of academic strength, BAAFS has five disciplines - Plant and Animal Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environment and Ecology, Geo-sciences, and Engineering - that rank among the top 1% worldwide in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI).BAAFS covers an area of 91.2 hectares, with a total building area of 320,000 square meters. The academy hosts 2 national key laboratories, 7 national engineering centers, 4 national germplasm resource preservation institutions, 13 key laboratories and 4 testing centers under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 5 national engineering centers under the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. It also houses a laboratory accredited by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) for seed quality testing, as well as an independent postdoctoral research station.Internationally, BAAFS has engaged in scientific and technological collaboration with more than 30 countries, including France, Canada, Italy, and Spain. It has established 9 international joint laboratories and 2 national-level international cooperation bases.
