IAS-KALRO Joint Laboratory of Sustainable Animal Research and One Health was jointly initiated by the Institute of Animal Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IAS) and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) in December 2024. With headquarters in Beijing, China and Nairobi, Kenya, it serves as a key platform for China-Kenya cooperation in animal science and technology. The laboratory aims to deepen China-Kenya scientific and technological cooperation, promote the application of science, technology, and innovation in the sustainable development of the livestock industry, and enhance the international influence of both parties in the fields of "One Health" and animal science. It focuses on collaborative innovation research in areas such as the germplasm protection, evaluation and application for livestock and agriculture, as well as the efficient smart livestock feeding and agriculture. Both parties will cultivate high-caliber agricultural science and technology talents for mutual benefit through jointly organizing international training courses, workshops, and academic conferences. As a benchmark platform for China-Africa agricultural science and technology cooperation, the laboratory is committed to promoting the application of advanced technologies in China, Kenya, and other African regions through an integrated "research + training + transformation" model, providing an exemplary model of "South-South cooperation" for global sustainable livestock development.
