Current Progress/Outcomes:
China and Egypt have exchanged over 100 soybean accessions. They have precisely identified the nutritional quality components, such as protein, oil content, and fatty acids, of more than 1,000 soybean germplasms. They have also identified over 10 candidate genes related to oil content and obtained two authorized invention patents. By combining conventional breeding with molecular marker-assisted breeding, they have created five new high-oil and high-yield soybean germplasms and applied for one new plant variety right for high-oil soybeans. They have trained five graduate students, guided one postdoctoral researcher, and hosted two Egyptian visiting scholars. They have given one invited presentation at an international academic conference and organized
