The milled head rice rate, one of the main indicators of rice commercialization, has become one of the important factors restricting the development of high quality rice. The WDR 'Huhan 1509' was used as the female parent and the high-quality rice variety 'Yuehesimiao' was used as the male parent, in order to breed new WDR varieties with high quality and high head milled head rice rate. A new WDR variety 'Huhan1517' with water-saving and drought resistance, high quality and high yield was successfully bred through strict screening of drought resistance and rice quality in the separated generation. Its rice quality met 2st class of Ministerial Standard, and the whole milled whole head rice rate of ‘Huhan1517’ is reached 70.8%. Its has good commodity value and promising prospects for further , good application and promotionextension prospects. 'Huhan 1517' can be used not only as an inbred a conventional rice variety, but also as a restorer line of in "three-line" and "two-line" hybrid rice breeding. Many derived combinations varieties have been cultivated with from ‘Huhan1517’ as a restorer line combination. The successful breeding of the this variety can provide referencegermplasm basis for the breeding and application of new varieties of high-quality WDR.
